Hand foot and Mouth Disease

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children.

Symptoms of Hand foot and Mouth disease

 

  • Fever and headache 
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Tiredness 
  • A rash on the palms and foot. The rash is not itchy, but sometimes it has blisters.

How it spreads?

 

  • Contact with respiratory droplets containing virus particles after a sick person coughs or sneezes. 
  • Fluid from blisters or scabs
  • The usual period from initial infection to the time symptoms appear is 3 to 7 days.

Prevention

 

  • Wash hands frequently 
  • Keep surfaces, shared equipment clean.
  • If you have the disease do not go to school and do not visit people 
  • Discard used nappy, tissue and such material safely
